Most of us have a good idea what the term MOTOR SKILLS mean. Typically it can be described as the ability to make the purposeful movements that are necessary to complete or master a prescribed task.

But when it comes to the differences in Gross and Fine Motor Skills, our ideas may vary somewhat… So here’s some simple definitions to clearly mark the differences and importance of each:

Gross motor skills are the abilities required in order to control the large muscles of the body for walking, running, sitting, crawling, and other activities. Riding helps in developing this skill. YBIKE has been proven to substantially improve balance, coordination and physical self-confidence!

Fine motor skills generally refer to the small movements of the hands, wrists, fingers, feet, toes, lips, and tongue in such activities as writing, buttoning, cutting, tracing, or visual tracking.

 THINK

AHEAD...

The global focus on obesity   is not just about the present; fast-food overdosing, inactivity abundance and the online, gaming and television obsession. No, no. Think ahead to the early onset of conditions, like diabetes, osteoporosis, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, related to obesity and sedentary lifestyles. Also consider the cost to society; decreased work productivity, increased healthcare expenses and diminished quality of life.

This is why we believe in regular activity and good nutritional habits for children (and adults). Good lifestyle practices start at home, should be supported at school and must be encouraged by society. It’s never too late to start. Let’s Play!«
